Dr. Vargas completed her medical school training in Colombia before specializing in pediatrics, neonatology, and pediatric cardiac intensive care in the United States. She joined Columbia University in New York, where she serves as a neonatal cardiac intensivist and neonatal ECMO medical director in the specialized Infant Cardiac Unit at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. Her clinical and research interests include congenital heart disease, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), and point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS).
Dr. Vargas is a founding member of the Neonatal Heart Society, a global organization committed to advancing care for infants with cardiovascular conditions. She also contributes to the Neonatal POCUS Collaborative, where she co-chairs the Program Development and Credentialing Subcommittee.
